In december 23 / january 24 the Ensemble makes his 2nd Tour in North America, with concerts in USA (Washington, Boston, Milford) and Canada (Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa). In Manhattan the american enterprise Shadowplay records a short documentary film for the 30th years of activity of Hyperion ensemble.

In november and december finally milongas are reopened, just for two months; performances in Torino and Milano.
In october Hyperion comes back to Mallorca Tango Festival, after various years of absence.
In the months of june, july and august, Hyperion performs several concerts in Italy (12 concerts in Tuscany, Lombardia, Liguria) and only 2 concerts abroad, due to the travel restrictions (Lugano CH and Utrecht N). In july a fruitful cooperation starts with the Dance Company ANITA, directed by Adriano Mauriello; concerts in Fiesole Teatro Romano, Sorrento, Lugano, Tagliacozzo). In these months the band performs in some “illegal” milonga, in Italy.
Year 2020
Autumn of this year, as well as the winter and spring 2021, are marked by a very heavy stop of the activity, due to the pandemic.
In july/august/september the Ensemble performs various concerts in Italy (La Spezia, Cortona, Morbegno).
From february to july a lot of concerts and international tours have been canceled due to the pandemic emergency of Covid-19, and the activity of the Ensemble has been obliged to stop temporarily.
On the 27th of december 2019 the Ensemble flies to U.S.A. starting his 1st tour in the States, with the management of Marina Kiseleva; concerts in Hartford, Boston, San Diego Tango Festival, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Eureka, Las Vegas. On the 30 of may the historical guitarist of the Ensemble, Nicola Toscano, dies after 9 months of illness. His place is taken by Davide D’Ambrosio.
On april 19th big show in Genova, Teatro Carlo Felice, celebrating the 100 years of the Tango La Cumparsita. At the presence of 2.000 spectators, the Ensemble performs a show with 3 actors, 4 copules of dancers, video projections. The show has been organized with the aid of Regione Liguria and Embassy of Uruguay.
In april Torino Tango Festival, show in Teatro Nuovo (with Zotto/Guspero, Arce/Montes, Achaval/Suarez, Moreno/Codega, Piliu/Quinones) and performance in Lingotto milonga with more than 1000 participants.

In february travelled to Athens to play in 5° Athens Tango Festival, with Milena Plebs and Los Hermanos Macanas
On 25th march takes place the premiere of the show ‘Contemporanea Tango’ with the famous singer Antonella Ruggiero; the project is repeated in various italian towns under the management of Just in Time: Roma, Cosenza, Lucca, Oristano etc.
On 29th march, in the framework of 10° Torino Tango Festival, the Ensemble performed a big show in the renowned Teatro Regio di Torino, with the dancers Arce/Montes, Frumboli/Sepulveda, Corbata/Cionci, Rodriguez/Missè, Giudice/Guevara, and the harmonicist Franco Luciani.
In april and may travelled 2 times to Belgium to play in Antwerp and Brussels Festivals (concerts in the Grand Platz and in the Hall Concert Noble).
At the end of may, in the Teatro Victoria Eugenia in San Sebastian (Spain) premiere of the Show Conceptango, with the Dance Company directed by Leo Calvelli and Eugenia Usandivaras.
At the end of june took part to a prestigious concert series in Florence; the artist performing in the others 2 nights were Caetano Veloso and Buena Vista Social Club.
In June took part to Genova Tango Festival, Palazzo Ducale, and to the Roma Tango Meeting.
On 18th july in La Spezia the Ensamble played with the famous composer and pianist Luis Bacalov, awarded with the Oscar prize for the soundtrack of film ‘Il Postino’. Music by Bacalov, Morricone and Piazzolla was performed.
In august and september took part to various international Festivals as Tarbes (France, with the show Conceptango), Fivizzano, Aix les bains, and travelled for 2nd time to London to perform in London River Tango Festival.
In september was released the 8th CD of the Ensemble: Contemporanea Tango, with Antonella Ruggiero, containing live recordings from the concerts with the singer.
In september concert in Genova with Antonella Ruggiero, in the Premio Tenco award to the famous argentinian poet and songwriter Horacio Ferrer.
In october 2° radio interview, by phone, to Radio Nacional, Buenos Aires, in the program El Tango en el mundo; music by Hyperion is played before and after the interview.

Year 2010
On Juanuary 30th in the majestic Palazzo Ducale in Genova accompanied the famous dancer Miguel Angel Zotto with Diana Guspero.
The last release of the ensemble “Live in Paris” has been entusiastically reviewed by german magazine Tangodanza, in the issue of january.
In April took part to 2 importanti Tango Festivals in Brussels (where it played with the famous bandoneonist Alfredo Marcucci and the young armonica virtuoso Franco Luciani) and Torino Tango Festival, where it played with the most renowned bandoneonist Juan Josè Mosalini in the Teatro Colosseo.
In the months from May to July took part to others Tango Festivals: Roma Tango Meeting, Tangofolie Lausanne (coming back in this Festival 14 years from the 1st time, in 1995), Genova Tango Festival, Festival TangoSud Montpellier, Sitges Tango Festival, Barcelona (Girona), Saarbrucken.
At the end of August the Ensemble travelled to Sicily, Siracusa, for one Show in the framework of the Siracusa ballet Festival, in the Maniace Castle, with Claudio Forte and Barbara Carpino, Joe and Lucila, Esteban and Claudia, Marcela and Stefano.
In August took part to Tarbes Tango Festival, peforming a concert with Juan Josè Mosalini, for above 1.300 people.
In August and September various Tango Festival: Pescara, Fivizzano, Padova, Aix les bains; in the last performance with harmonicist Franco Luciani.

Year 2008
In March took part to Torino Tango Festival and Couleurs tango in Paris. Shows in theatres in Fossano and La Spezia.
In February and March toured with the Show Tangovivo with the Company Union Tanguera directed by Esteban Moreno and Claudia Codega; organized by ATER, the Tour has been in theatres in Terni, Lugano, Piacenza, Lucca.
In April the Ensemble travelled to Brussels to perform in Brussels Tango Festival.
On May 5th the Hyperion Ensemble has the honour of performing in one of the most renowned italian theatres: Il Piccolo Teatro di Milano, with the dancers of the Company Union Tanguera.
On May 24th, in the Verdi Hall of the Turin Conservatory, in the concert series organized by the Accademia Corale Stefano Tempia, performs a concert with the bandoneonist Matias Gonzalez, playing, among others, in first perfomance his piece ‘Milonguetto’.
On july 9th invited the famous bandoneonist Juan Josè Mosalini to play with the Ensemble, in a concert organized by Società dei concerti della Spezia; the days spent with this great musician in preparation of this concerts, has been a very important experience for the Hyperion Ensemble, both from an artistic and a human point of wiew.
From 13 to 22 July the Ensemble toured with the show TangObsesiòn, with the Compañia de Tango Leonardo Cuello, in Forte di Bard (AO), Parma, Florence Dance Festival, Pescara Teatro D’Annunzio, Civitavecchia, Savona Fortezza del Priamar. The Company is composed by Rocío Leguizamón y Germán Filipeli, Paola Camacho y Gustavo Vargas, Ayelen Sanchez y Walter Suquia, Milagros Rolandelli y Lisandro Eberle, Teli Ortiz y Ollantay Rojas.
In July travelled to St Gallen (Switzerland) for a concert with the bandoneonist Luis Stazo in the Festival Kultur
In December took part to the 2° Sea Tango Festival, on the luxurious ship Costa Serena, which sailed through Mediterranean sea: Venezia, Bari, Katakolon, Izmir, Istanbul, Dubrovnik, with the dancers Marcela and Stefano, Chicho and Juana, Esteban Moreno and Amira Campora. In autumn took part to three important Tango Festivals: Palma de Mallorca, Baden-Baden, and Mantova.

In February toured with the show Tango with the Roberto Herrera company, in Catania (Teatro Metropolitan), Palermo, Lugano (Teatro Metropolitan), Bari (Teatro Team), Napoli (Teatro Acacia), Brescia (Palabrescia), Genova (Teatro Verdi), Pescara (Teatro Circus); at the bandoneon Camilo Ferrero (1° bandoneon of the Argentinian orchestra El Arranque)
In April the Ensemble took part to 2 important italian Festivals: Torino Tango Festival, and il Florence Tango Festival; performed in Teatro Colosseo in Torino with the show Tango Apasionado, and in the prestigious Saschall in Florence with ‘Boulevard tango’.
In July the new show Obsession Tango was performed in the Teatro Priamar in Savona, fully booked, and in Genova Arena del Mare di Genova. The dancers were Leo and Eugenia, Marcela and Stefano, Sebastian Missè and Andrea Reyero, Erna and Santiago, Patricia and Matteo.
In July and August took part for the 5th time to the series Insieme in Liguria organized by the Regione Liguria, presenting the show Boulevard Tango in several italian towns, featuring Betty Ilariucci (voice), Marcela Guevara and Stefano Giudice (dancers).
In summer 2007 the Ensemble played for the first time in various Tango Festivals around Europe: Berlin, Sitges (Barcelona, España), Feria du Tango in Alès (France), in Turkey Yunta Brava Tango Festival Bodrum, Dublin. Beyond these took part as usually to others Tango Festivals: Genova, Paris International Tango Congress, Stockholm, Tangoworld in Fivizzano. At the bandoneon Luis Stazo, Matias Gonzalez and Josè Luis Betancor.
On August 5th in Bonassola (SP) in the framework of the “VI Festival paganiniano di Carro” performed the Trout Quintet by F.Schubert and the Quartet in G minor by R.Schumann. At the piano Guido Bottaro, Valerio Giannarelli at the violin, Ernest Braucher (1st alto of Carlo Felice Theatre Genova) on alto, Paolo Ognissanti on cello, Danilo Grandi on double bass.
In the 9° Festival Tangoworld in Fivizzano accompanied the two special guests Silvia Lallana (voice) and Cesar Angeleri (guitar). In the same night Radio Nacional in Buenos Aires was broadcasting a concert by the Ensemble Hyperion in the progam ‘El Tango en el mundo’.
In November the Ensemble travelled to Zurich, Wien, Freiburg, for Conventions and Tango Festivals.
In December took part to the 1° Sea Tango Festival, on the luxurious ship Costa Concordia, which sailed through Mediterranean sea: Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tunis, Malta, Palermo, with Marcela and Stefano, Chicho and Juana, Esteban Moreno and Romina Tumini, Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes.
In December took part to the Mantova Tango Festival.

In February the 6° CD was released, entitled Buenos Aires hora cero, containing live recordingd between 1998 and 2005.
From 15 to 24 March 2006 the Ensemble toured with the Show ‘Espiritu de Argentina’, choreographies by Pilar Alvarez & Claudio Hoffmann, in Fasano, Taranto, Napoli, Asti, Senigallia.
In April took part for the 2nd time to the Festival Couleurs Tango in Paris, performing at the Citè Universitaire and Dock Haussmann
In 14 and 15 April took part to the 6° Torino Tango Festival, feauturing at the bandoneon Luis Stazo and Josè Luis Betancor. Still inside the program of Torino tango Festival a show has been performed in the Teatro Alfieri, entitled Buenos Aires Hora Cero, with Claudia Codega and Esteban Moreno, Andrea Missè and Javier Rodriguez, Sebastian Missè and Andrea Reyero, Stefano Giudice and Marcela Guevara, the actor Hugo Herrera and the singer Georgina Vargas.
In the framework of the Firenze Tango Festival, organized by Patricia Hilliges and Matteo Panero, the Ensemble played in the Teatro Saschall din Florence, with Javier Rodriguez and Andrea Missè, Pajaro and Mecha, Sebastian Missè and Andrea Reyero, Los hermanos Macana.
In May travelled to Lille, France, for a concert in the Musèe de Roubaix with Claudia Codega and Esteban Moreno.
In June took part to the 7° International Tango Festival in Genova, in the majestic Salone del Gran Consiglio of Palazzo Ducale, accompanying famous dancers as Geraldine Rojas and Ezequiel Paludi, Adrian Aragon and Erica Boaglio, Pablo Villaraza and Dana Frigoli. In this occasion the Hyperion counts between its musicians Luis Stazo, Alfredo Marcucci and Josè Luis Betancor. This was the beginning of the collaboration with another great personage in the history of bandoneon: Alfredo Marcucci, that will last until his dead in 2010.
In July and August the Ensemble Hyperion toured again with the show Tango Metropolis, Daniel Binelli at the bandoneon and 5 couples of dancers: Claudio Hoffmann y Pilar Alvarez, Marijò Alvarez y Pablo Pugliese, Sandra Bootz y Gabriel Ortega, Alejandra Barboza y Omar Caceres, Noelia Solderas y Orlando Farias. The show was presented in Roma, Parma, Firenze (Fiesole), Caserta and Teatro La Versiliana.
In August the Ensemble participated to 2 important International Tango Festivals: Stockholm (12/8) and Tarbes (25/8); at the bandoneon Luis Stazo and Josè Luis Betancor. In Tarbes, for an audience of 1600 listeners, the singer Silvia Lallana from Cordoba (Argentina) performed with the Hyperion.
On 21th September in the renowned Auditorium del Lingotto in Torino concert for International Medicine Convention; dancers Leo Calvelli and Eugenia, Sergio Natario and Alejandra, Santiago Giachello and Erna.
In Novembre 4° Munchen Tango Festival, in Germany, with Roberto Herrera and Tamara, Pablo Inza, Martha Giorgi and others.
On 12th Novembre in the Teatro Comunale in Latina was presented the show Boulevard Tango with Lautaro and Lucila, Marcela and Stefano, Erna and Santiago, Mauro and Sara. This performance marked the concert n° 500 from the beginning; a 2007 calendar was released with a photographic history of the Ensemble.
In December 2006 Romatangofestival, in the majestic Palazzo Brancaccio, in Roma. At the bandoneon Luis Stazo and Betancor. In December two performances of the show Tango with the Roberto Herrera company: Imola and Sanremo.

Year 2005
In winter 2004/2005 the show Boulevard Tango toured in two prestigous italian theatres: Teatro Nuovo in Torino (dancers Esteban and Claudia, Marcela and Stefano, Patricia and Matteo, Sebastian Missè and Andrea Reyero) and Arena del Sole in Bologna (dancers Stefano and Marcela – Claudio Hoffmann and Marijò Alvarez – Gustavo Saenz and Giorgina Vargas – Monina and Julian – Patricia and Matteo – Luca and Emmanuelle). In Bologna also performed with the Hyperion one of the best tango-voices from Buenos Aires: the singer Diego Hernan.
In March 2005 Hyperion recorded its 5° CD, at the Studios SMC in Ivrea, entitled “Corso Buenos Aires”, dedicated to Tango. At the bandoneon Peter Reil and Christian Gerber.
On 6th March 2005 the Ensemble was invited to Sevilla, to perform in the Teatro Lope de Vega in the framework of the VI Cumbre Mundial del Tango. In this occasion the Ensemble had the opportunità to meet and to share the stage with musicians and artists as Horacio Ferrer, Ruben Juarez, etc.
In Aprile the Ensemble travelled to London to play, with the famous dancer Miguel Angel Zotto and Soledad Rivero, in the Battersea Arts Centre. At the bandoneon Peter Reil and Christian Gerber.
During 2005 the Ensemble travelled 2 times to Paris to play in two important Tango festivals: Couleurs Tango, in april (sharing the stage with the renowned Argentinian Orchestra Color Tango with Roberto Alvarez) and Festival d’etè, in july. In both occasions the Hyperion obtained a good succes, and the invitation was reiterated for next year.
In June the Ensemble was invitated to the Genova Tango Festival, in the majestic hall of Palazzo Ducale in Genova.
Music by Ensemble Hyperion is played on several occasions by the Radio Nacional Argentina, in the program “El Tango en el Mundo”, directed by Diego Rivarola, and on Canal 2×4.
In July 2005 the Ensemble has been the orchestra of the italian Tour of the show Tango Nuevo direcyted by Roberto Herrera; performances in Naples, Rome, Rovigo, Imola, Torino.
From 1999 Hyperion Ensemble organizes, in the month of September, an international Tango Festival in Fivizzano (Tuscany), Tangoworld, that gathers in this picturesque town in Lunigiana hundreds of Tangueroes coming from every part of Europe, with the most world renowned teachers.
In August 2005 the famous Argentinian bandoneonist Daniel Binelli played with the Ensemble during a period of 15 days of intensive study, rehearsal and concerts around Italy. With Binelli the Hyperion performed two different kinds of show: Orquestango, for bandoneon, piano, string quintet and flute, and Tango Metropolis, a big show with 5 couples of dancers, choreographies by Claudio Hoffmann and Pilar Alvarez. Tango Metropolis tours in various italian towns and in Murcia, Spain.
In summer 2005 took again part to the series Insieme in Liguria, organized by the Regione Liguria, with the show “Tropical Tango”, a journey through the italian and the brazilian song and Tango, with the guitarist Roberto Taufic from Brasil, and the bandoneonist Tito Cartechini, from Buenos Aires. During the 9 performances of Tropical Tango danced Marcela Guevara e Stefano Giudice.
In July in Savona and Carrara the Hyperion presented the show Boulevard Tango, for the 1st time with the Allthattango company directed by Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes – dancers: Adrian Veredice and Alejandra Hobert, Daniel Montano and Francesca Del Buono, Julia and Andres Ciafardini, choreographies by Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes.
In September 2005 travelled to Tarbes, concert at the Semaine International de Ginecologie with Pilar Alvarez and Claudio Hoffmann.
Also in September for the first time the Hyperion has been hounoured to count between its musicians another great personage in the history of Tango: Luis Stazo. Luis Stazo, founder with Josè Libertella of the famous Sexteto Mayor in 1973, has played all around the world with this group, performing in important shows as Tango Argentino and Tango Pasion. Actually Luis Stazo lives in Berlin. The collaboration with Stazo lasted till the end of 2008 when the musician, aged 78, ceased to play abroad.
On 30th december 2005 Bruno Fiorentini, the director of the Ensemble, in Buenos Aires, participated to the Radio program ‘El Tango en el mundo’ on Radio Nacional, this edition of the program has been dedicated almost entirely to the Hyperion Ensemble, and many tracks from Hyperion’s CDs have been broadcasted.

Year 2004
With the concert held on 13th february at the Teatro Astoria in Savona the collaboration began with the Argentinian singer Paula Gales, who was very well known in Buenos Aires in the 70s, for a notable activity in movies, TV and with famous orchestras.
From 4 to 9 May 2004 the show Boulevard Tango is presented in the Teatro S.Babila in Milano, with the dancers Claudia Codega and Esteban Moreno, Javier Rodriguez and Geraldine Rojas, Stefano Giudice and Marcela Guevara, Adrian Aragon and Erica Boaglio; at the bandoneon Peter Reil and Josè Luis Betancor, singer Paula Gales. The show obtains a great success.
In summer 2004 takes part again to the series Insieme in Liguria, organized by Regione Liguria, with 17 performances of the show “Genova Bahia andata e ritorno”, a sort of meeting between the italian and brazilian folk songs, featuring the brazilian guitarist Roberto Taufic.
In summer 2004, in July and August the show Boulevard Tango toured with 4 couples of dancers: Javier Rodriguez and Geraldine Rojas, Adrian Aragon and Nora, Patricia Hilliges and Matteo Panero. In some dates Roberto Reis and Lucila Cionci took part to the show as well. The Tour touched Milano, Portovenere, Caltagirone, Viareggio, Santa Fiora, Spoleto. At the bandoneon Peter Reil and Tito Cartechini.
In October 2004 performed in the Milano Tango Festival, the unique italian orchestra between Color Tango, Fernandez Fierro, Caceres.
On 17 and 18 december 2004 the show Boulevard Tango was presented in Arezzo, Teatro Petrarca. At the bandoneon Peter Reil and Josè Luis Betancor, with the dancers Roberto Herrera and Natacha Poberaj, Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes, Patricia Hilliges and Matteo Panero, Tobias Bert and Annalisa Di Luzio. This was the first collaboration with Roberto Herrera, that continued with the participation of the Ensemble to the show Tango Nuevo, in 2005.

Year 2003
In June 2003 the Ensemble began to play with a new bandoneonist, Josè Luis Betancor, uruguayan living in Lyon. Betancor performs several concerts with the band, and this collaboration is still going on with excellent results.
In july and August the show Boulevard Tango was presented in various summer Festivals, featuring 3 couples of dancers: Javier Rodriguez & Geraldine Rojas, Adrian Aragon & Nora, Patricia Hilliges & Matteo Panero. The show toured in Vignaledanza, Milano, Riva del Garda, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Spoleto, Bologna and Santa Fiora. In this tour the bandoneonis was the young Marisa Mercadè, from Buenos Aires. In October the Ensemble travelled to Stuttgart, Germany, for a Tango night in the CBS Hall.
Still in October 2003 was invited by the Festival di Musica Contemporanea in Bolzano to perform a monografic concert dedicated to compositions by the german composer Heiner Goebbels, with a formation composed by 18 musicians.
On 20 August 2003 appeared on italian TV RAI2 in the framework of the program dedicated to the Music & Dance Festival “Musicworld” in Fivizzano, Tuscany, performing Tanguera, by Mariano Mores featuring the Argentinian dancers Javier Rodriguez & Geraldine Rojas

Year 2002
Hyperion began year 2002 with a project in collaboration with the Theatre Carlo Felice in Genoa, forwarding the performance of an adaptation of Mozart’s Zauberflote for an Octet of wind instruments and actor’s voice. The actor was Luigi Maio and the piece was performed 5 nights in the Auditorium of the Theatre.
Still in collaboration with Carlo Felice Theater, in Aprile William Walton’s “Façade” was performed, 5 nights in the Auditorium too.
In May the Ensemble travelled to Germany, for 2 concerts in Heilbronn and Munchen.
Coming back to Italy, performed, with the renowned italian group Matia Bazar, a concert in Teatro Cantero, Chiavari. This marked the beginning of the collaboration with the german bandoneonist Peter Reil, that lasted till 2005.
In July presented a show in the important Ballet Festival “Vignaledanza”, in Italy. This was the first performance of the Show “Boulevard Tango”, with 4 or 5 couples of dancers.
In summer 2002 took part to the series of concerts “Insieme in Liguria”, organized by Regione Liguria, repeating 7 performances of the show “Al cinema ad occhi chiusi”, dedicated to the History of Cinema through its music, with actor Roberto Alinghieri.
On 20 August 2002 appeared on TV RAI2 in the program dedicated to the Music & Dance Festival Musicworld in Fivizzano, playing Libertango by Astor Piazzolla with Adrian Aragon & Erica Boaglio.

Year 2001
On 14 Aprile 2001 the group took part as an Orchestra in the first edition of the Torino Tango Festival; this collaboration has continued ever since and Ensemble Hyperion is regularly invited by the Festival organizers.
In the summer of 2001 it took part for the first time in the interprovincial project called Insieme in Liguria, organized by the Liguria Region with the 4 Ligurian Provinces, with the show Emigranti e Tango, inaugurated the previous summer. They tour 13 cities throughout Liguria, with actor Roberto Alinghieri and dancers Pedro and Marcela Monteleone.

Year 2000
In the year 2000 the group extended its repertoire from Piazzolla to include many other Argentinian composers and more traditional tangos. In May Hyperion Ensemble performed for the first time in a milonga, in the historical Cafè Liberty in Viareggio.
In March/April they recorded 3 CDs: Boulevard Tango (Piazzolla music and original themes), Minimal Movie (film soundtracks), and I Concerti a 5 di Antonio Vivaldi. Boulevard Tango has currently been reprinted twice.
August saw the opening of the show dedicated to the large Italian migration to Argentina, Emigranti e il Tango, with actor Roberto Alinghieri and 2 couples of dancers.
On 4 November, together with the Orchestra Regionale Toscana, the Ensemble took part in a major concert at the Verdi Theatre in Florence, performing the 8 Seasons by Vivaldi/Piazzolla.
In the winter of 2000/2001, in collaboration with the Società dei Concerti, the Ensemble performed a cycle of concerts dedicated to J.S. Bach at the Museo Lia in La Spezia, including the full version of the Musical Offer, The Art of the Fugue and the Triosonatas.

Year 1999
In summer 1999 Hyperion began its collaboration with various Argentinian Tango dancers, invited to perform in the show ‘Livin’ Tango'; among the others we would like to mention especially Osvaldo Zotto and Lorena Ermocida.
In November the Ensemble travelled to Korfù, Greece, for a succesful concert in the Demotikè Theatre, with the dancers Pedro and Marcela Monteleone.

Year 1998
In 1998 the Hyperion Ensemble recorded its first CD,’Livin’ Tango’ in the Carlo Felice Theatre in Genoa, with music by Astor Piazzolla. Livin’ Tango obtained a good success, and has been reprinted 3 times.
In the month of May the Ensemble travelled to Malaga for a concert held in the Cervantes Theatre; on the following day in that theatre, during that same Festival, the famous guitarist Pat Metheny performed with his band.
1998 was the year of the beginning of the project dedicated to contemporary film music: Minimal movie. This project was performed in many Italian towns.
As a next step in the Bach project, in August the Ensemble performed the full version of The Art of Fugue, orchestrated for 8 instruments by Bruno Fiorentini.

Year 1997
In march 1997 the Ensemble travelled to Freiburg for a concert in the Maria-Hilf-Saal. It was the first concert to feature double bass player Danilo Grandi, who then became a regular member of the Ensemble. On 14 October 1997, at the Cometa Theatre in Rome the Histoire du soldat, by Strawinsky, was performed with actor Luigi Maio, featuring among the audience the famous composer and writer Roman Vlad, who made enthusiastic comments about the interpretation. 1997 saw the beginning of Hyperion’s Bach project, with the complete performance of his ‘Musical offering’.

Year 1996
In April 1996 the collaboration with actor Luigi Maio continued with the production of ‘Façade’ by William Walton, for voice and Ensemble of 8 musicians, performed in various italian towns. In summer 1996, in the framework of the Festival Portovenere Donna,the ‘Ensemble performed Les Chansons de Bilitis, by Claude Debussy, with the renowned actress Laura Morante, directed by Oreste Valente. Still in the field of theatre and music, in October a ‘Serata futurista’ was organized, with poems by F.T.Marinetti and compositions by B.Pratella and G.Malipiero, in the framework of ‘Culture dei mari’, organized by the Società dei concerti, with the actor Roberto Alinghieri and the contemporary dancer Silvana Barbarini , directed by L.Testi. In October the Ensemble travelled to Zaragoza, Spain, to perform in the prestigious Auditorium de la Municipalitad. This concert marked the beginning of the collaboration with the Argentinian bandoneon player Gilberto Pereyra, that lasted till August 2002.

Year 1995
The year 1995 saw the Ensemble’s first Tango concert abroad, when they took part in the Tangofolie Festival of Lausanne, playing at the gala night in the Petit Palais in Montreaux.
That same year Ensemble Hyperion organized, for the Province of La Spezia, the first edition of the ‘I Luoghi della Musica’ Festival, which reached its 16th edition in 2010. ‘I Luoghi della Musica’ is a series of 60 outdoor summer concerts in collaboration with 4 other organizations of the region: Società dei concerti of La Spezia, Amici della musica of Sarzana, Il Pianoforte, Ass. Cesar Franck.

Year 1992-1993-1994
In 1993 the Ensemble performed 22 concerts, and in October began its 2nd tour abroad, in Germany and Holland, playing in Leimen, Lorsch, Heidelberg (Alte Aula Universitat), and s’Hertogenbosch.
5 April 1993 marked the start of their collaboration with Genoese actor Luigi Maio, with whom they would later perform several chamber theatre productions. Their first concert, in La Spezia, was the Histoire du soldat by Stravinsky, directed by Antonio Plotino, with which they then toured many Italian towns.
In summer 1993 the Ensemble began to develop its project dedicated to the music of Astor Piazzolla, with a 12-city concert tour in Liguria. In 1994 the Ensemble performed 24 concerts, including one in Germany (Dortmund); in the autumn they presented the Astor Piazzolla project in Massa (Teatro Guglielmi) and Carrara (Teatro Animosi).
The beginnings
Hyperion Ensemble was founded in 1991 in La Spezia (Italy) by Carlo Emanuele Barbanente (lawyer and music lover) and Bruno Fiorentini, with a 2-year grant from the Cassa di Risparmio di La Spezia Foundation. The musicians who formed the original group include Valerio Giannarelli (who later would become Hyperion Ensemble’s artistic director), Marina Artioli, Stefania Nardi, and Claudia Poz. From the beginning their aim was to explore the various expressions of modern musical sensibilities, studying the different musical styles of our age: from contemporary classical music, to chamber theatre, minimalism, modern tango, and movie soundtracks. The inauguration concert took place on 19 January 1992 in the beautiful auditorium of the Provincial Palace in La Spezia; the Ensemble was composed of 14 musicians, and performed music by Ravel, Poulenc, Faurè and Castelnuovo Tedesco, organized by Società dei Concerti of La Spezia. The second concert, held by Hyperion in the same town, La Spezia, was dedicated to music by Ligurian composers. During their first year of life the Ensemble performed 11 concerts; the last of which, on 26 December 1992 in La Spezia, was entitled Omaggio ad Astor Piazzolla, and is the first embryo of the project dedicated to Tango, which in the following years was to become a very important part of the group’s activity. In October 1992 Hyperion embarked on its first international tour to Hungary and Romania, with concerts in Debrecen (Hungary), Carei, Satu Mare and Baia Mare (Romania), performing music by Mozart, Bruch, Debussy, Ibert, Ravel.
